Found something on Mercari or Yahoo! Auctions that you can only get in Japan? Shipping it overseas is slow and expensive, and your parcel can be held at customs. If you are visiting Japan, there is an easier way: we buy it for you before you arrive, and you collect it while you are here.
Why shipping from Japan is getting harder
- Import duties and fees. Many countries now charge duty and handling fees even on small parcels. Since August 2025, almost every parcel sent to the United States has to clear customs and pay import duties.
- Paperwork and delays. Each item needs a description, value and customs code. One missing detail can hold your parcel for days.
- Items that cannot be shipped. Alcohol, perfume, lithium batteries and many liquids cannot go by international post.
- Cost. Sending a 10 kg parcel by EMS can cost tens of thousands of yen, often more than the items inside it.
The easier way: receive it in Japan
If you will be in Japan, none of this applies. Your items are delivered inside Japan, and you take them home in your luggage.
- Send us the link. Paste the Mercari, Yahoo! Auctions, Rakuten or Amazon Japan link into our quote form. No Japanese account is needed.
- Get your quote. We check the item and the seller, and email your exact quote, usually within one business day.
- Pay and we buy. Pay securely by card (Stripe). We buy the item straight away.
- Collect it. Choose one of three ways:
- Our Ginza office in Tokyo – weekdays 1pm–5pm, no delivery charge, and you can pay in cash.
- Your hotel – we send it to arrive on your check-in day.
- The airport when you leave – collect it at the Haneda or Narita delivery counter before your flight.
Brand items: authenticated by Mercari
For brand bags, wallets, sneakers, watches and trading cards of ¥20,000 or more, we recommend Mercari’s own authentication service (“Anshin Kantei”). Mercari’s appraisers check the item, and you receive it only if it passes. If it does not pass, the item price and the authentication fee are refunded. Learn more.
When to order
Sellers in Japan usually ship within 1–3 days, and authentication takes a few more days. We recommend:
- Request your quote about 3 weeks before you want to receive your items.
- Pay at least 14 days before for authenticated items (7 days for others). For airport pickup, count from your departure day, so you get the most time.
Enter your travel dates in our schedule planner to see your exact deadlines.
What it costs
One clear price in Japanese yen: item price + ¥1,000 per item + 10% of the item price, plus delivery (Ginza pickup is free) and authentication if you choose it. No membership fee, no deposit. Try our price calculator.
Example: a ¥30,000 designer bag with authentication, delivered to your hotel in Tokyo, costs ¥40,060 in total.
