What is Mercari “Anshin Kantei”?

Anshin Kantei is Mercari’s paid authentication option for buyers. The item is sent to Mercari’s authentication centre, where Mercari, or a professional appraiser Mercari has hired, checks it. You receive the item only if it passes their authentication standards. Authentication adds about 1–3 days to delivery.

When is authentication used?

Authentication is optional, and you choose it when you place your order.

If you choose not to use authentication, you buy the item at your own risk. We do not guarantee that it is genuine, and we cannot accept returns or refunds for authenticity reasons.

When authentication is not available

Anshin Kantei is Mercari’s own service and Mercari sets the conditions. It cannot be used when:

• The seller does not use Mercari’s own delivery service. Authentication is possible only for items sent by Rakuraku Mercari-bin or Yuyu Mercari-bin. Some sellers use other delivery methods.
• The item is not in an eligible brand or category. Eligible categories are selected sneaker brands, fashion and accessories, trading cards, and watches.
• The purchase is made through Mercari’s bulk-purchase request.
• The item is not on Mercari. Anshin Kantei is a Mercari service, so it cannot be used for Yahoo! Auctions or other sites.

Authentication must be chosen at the moment of purchase, and it cannot be added or cancelled afterwards. We check every item before we send your quote, and if authentication is not possible we tell you then, so that you can decide whether to buy the item without it.

If an item does not pass authentication

• Mercari cancels the purchase automatically and returns the item to the seller at the seller’s cost.
• Mercari refunds the item price and the authentication fee in full, so a failed authentication does not cost you the authentication fee.
• We pass that refund on to you, together with unused delivery charges and our ¥1,000 service fee. Only the 10% handling and payment fee is not refundable.
• If you would like us to look for the same item from another seller, that is a new order.

Authentication fees (paid by you, included in your quote)

Items under ¥100,000 are charged the fee above. For sneakers, fashion and trading cards priced ¥100,000 or more, the fee may be free when Mercari shows “Anshin Kantei is free” on the item page. Watches are always charged.

Returns

• Once you have received your items (at your hotel, at the airport, in Ginza, or by EMS), we cannot accept returns or exchanges.
• If we sent you the wrong item, please contact us within 24 hours of receiving it.
• We are a buying agent, not the seller. We do not guarantee that items are genuine. For brand items, authenticity is decided by Mercari’s authentication.
• If you file a card chargeback without contacting us first, we may no longer be able to accept your orders.
